Mozzarella Sticks


Ingredients:
  • 1 pound mozzarella sticks (string cheese) or brick mozzarella
  • 2 eggs, beaten
  • 1/4 cup water
  • 1 1/2 cups Italian bread crumbs
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic salt
  • 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning
  • 2/3 cup flour
  • 1/3 cup cornstarch
  • Vegetable oil (for deep frying)
Directions:

If using brick-form mozzarella, cut the cheese into finger-size sticks.  Beat the eggs with water, set aside.  Mix bread crumbs, garlic salt, Italian seasoning then set aside.  Blend flour and cornstarch then set aside.  Heat vegetable oil to 360 degrees Fahrenheit, (click link to see Fahrenheit to Celsius Chart).  Dip cheese in this order; flour, egg wash, then coat with bread crumbs.  Place carefully in hot oil and fry until golden brown or your preference.
